In research carried out by Morse and Weiss in the 1950’s, unemployed people were asked what they missed most about not working.
These were their findings:
31% said they missed their teammates
25% said they missed the feeling of doing something useful
12% said they missed the work
9% said they missed doing worthwhile work
6% said they missed the routine
5% said they missed the interest in their work.
The interesting thing is people’s raw behavior styles world-wide haven’t changed – even though technology has changed, our equipment has changed, what we eat and how we buy things have changed but our behaviors and reactions haven’t! Our company works in businesses and with teams worldwide and we have collated what employees love –
Unfortunately, human nature is to be excited to get the job and then by around six months it may become a bit of a drag, especially if the induction wasn’t great and the job roles keep changing without the “how to” being explained. If the vision and mission don’t align quite often people will lose their passion and then they start to find negativity.
If you are finding yourself feeling negative, please look at what you could do to lift spirits and make the workplace great again, see what you can mentally change and physically change in your body to show enjoyment (it’s always the small tweaks that make the big differences), and if you really hate the job and you are complaining to everyone, please leave or change roles as you are not suited for the position and the business and yourself will suffer because of it.
And just remember, if you haven’t thought it through yet, go back to remembering why you applied for the position in the first place and see what can you do to make a difference – because you may just MISS IT 😀 when you leave -have a great day!
